About Historic Keyboards
We are a collective of historians, musicians, and preservationists united by a profound passion for the instruments that shaped centuries of classical music. Our journey began with a simple need: a central, comprehensive archive where the world's historic keyboard instruments could be documented and shared. We believe that every antique fortepiano, harpsichord, and clavichord holds an irreplaceable 'Voice of History,' and we are dedicated to ensuring the unique narratives embedded within their wood and strings endure for future study and appreciation.
Mission
The primary mission of the Global Registry is to serve as the definitive searchable digital archive for the world’s acoustic keyboard instruments. We achieve this by fostering community contribution, meticulously documenting the provenance, construction, and unique acoustic properties of each instrument submitted. Our ultimate goal is to trace the instrument's complete history—from the master builder to its current location—to provide scholars, collectors, and enthusiasts worldwide with the essential resources to study, compare, and preserve this vital musical heritage for all time.
