The instrument was long attributed to Cawton Aston based on the initials on the bottom key. Recent scholarship suggests re-attribution to Player based on many similarities with other Player spinets.

No inscription on nameboard

'C.A.' on bottom key, likely the initials of Player's apprentice Cawton Aston.

Interesting series of dots above key numbering, up to note 14. Possibly, two dots for silver string, one dot for red brass strings.....?
