Square Piano by Ibach, A

Range: Contra F–f4 (six octaves). The lower keys are fitted with ivory, the upper keys with ebony. This unadorned instrument, veneered in cherry wood, rests on four square, pointed legs. It has single-stringed voicing in the contra octave and double-stringed voicing elsewhere, and features a German (‘Prell’) action with brass caps without a release mechanism. It is fitted with a knee lever which acts as a forte lever by lifting the damper. To achieve a larger soundboard, the hammers for the highest keys (from a2 upwards) are positioned beneath the soundboard, as in table pianos Nos. 146 and 147, and strike the strings through a gap.
