In the first half of the 19th century, the cabinet piano was an answer to the growing demand of quality pianos. They were looking for an instrumnet that had the string length of a grand, but demanding less space in the household. Not surprisingly, John Broadwood, the most important builder in London, paid a lot of attention to this demand.
