In the 19th century piano building was not only the privilege of large companies, but also small workshops that made beautiful instruments. Romey in Hamburg is a fine example of this.

Made by William Rolfe and Sons in around 1825, this piano was brought to New Zealand by George Hunter, the first mayor of Wellington, in 1840
