Harpsichord by Vorstius, L

1 manual, G1/H1–f3, 8’8’4’, 3 stop levers. Soundboard with a cast and bronzed metal rosette; a portative between the initials ‘L V’. According to Kinsky (1919), the keyboard originally belonged to another instrument. The lower keys are fitted with ivory keys, the upper keys with ebony keys. On the rear end of the H1 key lever is the inscription ‘Amsterd’ (Amsterdam?), and on the f3 lever is the date ‘Ao. 1766’. The jacks have leather plectra, so they are undoubtedly not original. The side stops pass through the stop wall; their handles are set with ivory. Credit: Uni of Leipzig
