Square Piano by Schneider, J

This square piano was made by Johann Friedrich Julius Schneider in Nuremberg, Germany around 1775. It has an early Prell action which is fairly typical of South German and Austrian square pianos in the latter part of the 18th century. This piano has a compass of FF-f3, an early Prell (hitch-pin rail acts as Prelleiste, or escapement rail), leather hammers, double-strings, tuning pins on right, 1 hand stop: lute, with tuning pins on right, 1 knee lever (missing): dampers, wood frame, and a conifer case.
