The Stodart piano company was founded in 1775 by Robert Stodart, a tuner and employee of John Broadwood. Robert Stodart is known to have involved in the development of Backer’s English grand piano action. His two sons took over the piano business from their father around 1795. This fine mahogany instrument is decorated with rosewood crossbanding, two drawers, six turned, reeded legs and satinwood interior.
