Upright Piano by Pleyel

The Covington piano, brought to the Oregon Territory in 1846, is widely recognized as the first piano in the Pacific Northwest. It is an 1830s Pleyel rosewood upright originally shipped from England around Cape Horn to Fort Vancouver. 

The instrument was a wedding gift to educators Richard and Charlotte (Anna) Covington, who were recruited by the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1848, the couple built a log cabin on a donation claim in the Fourth Plain area of Orchards, Washington (now known as the historic Covington House
